About Rebel Souls Rescue: Our Dog Rescue Story
A nonprofit built on love, compassion, and the belief that every dog deserves a chance
Who We Are
Rebel Souls Rescue was founded with a clear and urgent purpose: to save the lives of pit bulls, bully breeds, and other dogs that face disproportionate euthanasia rates in shelters across the country. What began as a small group of friends pooling their resources to pull dogs from local kill shelters has grown into a fully operational 501(c)(3) nonprofit rescue organization with a dedicated network of fosters, volunteers, veterinary partners, and supporters.
Our name reflects the spirit of the dogs we serve. These are resilient, strong-willed animals who refuse to give up, even after enduring neglect, abuse, or abandonment. They are rebels with loving souls, and they inspire us every single day to keep fighting on their behalf. We see in every wagging tail and every grateful lick a reminder of why this work matters.
Our Mission and Values
Our mission is threefold: rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome dogs in need, with a special focus on pit bulls and bully breeds that face breed discrimination. We believe that no dog should lose its life simply because of how it looks or what breed label has been assigned to it.
We operate on several core values that guide everything we do:
- Compassion First: Every dog in our care receives the medical attention, nutrition, training, and love they need to heal and thrive. We never cut corners when it comes to the wellbeing of our animals.
- Responsible Placement: We conduct thorough adoption screening to ensure every dog goes to a home that is the right fit. Our goal is not just adoption, but lasting, happy placements.
- Education and Advocacy: We actively combat breed stereotypes through community education, BSL advocacy, and public outreach. Changing hearts and minds is just as important as saving individual dogs.
- Transparency: As a registered nonprofit, we maintain full financial transparency. Every dollar donated goes directly toward the care and rescue of our dogs.
How We Operate
Rebel Souls Rescue is a foster-based organization. Rather than maintaining a traditional brick-and-mortar shelter facility, our dogs live in loving foster homes throughout the community while they await adoption. This model allows each dog to decompress from the stress of shelter life, learn household manners, and receive individualized attention.
Our intake process prioritizes dogs in the most urgent situations: those on euthanasia lists at overcrowded shelters, victims of cruelty and neglect cases, and dogs whose owners can no longer provide safe homes. Each dog receives a full veterinary workup, including spay or neuter surgery, vaccinations, heartworm testing and treatment if needed, microchipping, and any additional medical care required.
Our volunteer training team works with dogs on basic obedience, leash manners, crate training, and socialization. Many of our dogs arrive with behavioral challenges stemming from their past experiences, and our experienced trainers use positive reinforcement methods to help them build confidence and trust.
Our Impact
Over the past twelve years, Rebel Souls Rescue has saved more than 500 dogs from uncertain futures. We have placed over 420 dogs into carefully vetted forever homes, and we maintain a return rate of less than 3 percent, one of the lowest in rescue. Our success stories page showcases just a fraction of the happy endings we have helped create.
Beyond direct rescue work, we have been instrumental in local advocacy efforts against breed-specific legislation, partnered with schools to teach children about responsible pet ownership, and organized dozens of community adoption events and fundraisers that bring people together in support of rescue dogs.
